LOVING GOD
Our primary purpose at Sovereign Grace is to glorify God and grow in our relationship with Him. We seek to grow in awareness of the holiness of God, to experience the fullness of His life-changing grace, and to practice that which God teaches us in His Word. We are committed corporately and individually to prayer, worship, and studying God's Word so that we might better know God and demonstrate to the world the love God demonstrated to us through the Cross of Jesus Christ.
LIFE IN THE SPIRIT
Like the first Christians, we have a great need and desire for the dynamic power of the Holy Spirit in our midst. The Spirit counsels us, comforts us, and convicts us of sin. He guides us into the truth. He opens our eyes to the significance of Christ's death on the Cross. He gives us power to overcome temptation and live righteously. In obedience to God's Word, we seek to live by the Spirit, depending on him daily to make us like Jesus Christ.
GENUINE RELATIONSHIPS
Meaningful relationships are rare in this fast-paced, bumper-to-bumper world of the Roanoke area. In the church, though, genuine relationships really can be the norm. At Sovereign Grace we are committed to serve and care for each other. That's not always easy, of course, but in obedience to God we're determined to develop honest, intimate relationships as we follow Christ side-by-side.
COMMON PURPOSE
In order to be effective, a church's members must agree on its mission. Our mission at Sovereign Grace is to demonstrate in word and deed the life-changing Gospel. We desire to plant new churches in Virginia and around the world whose members are established in sound doctrine, growing in godly character and involved in practical service.
MINISTRIES
Care Groups
Relationships are the backbone of our life together. Care Groups provide a setting for friendships to flourish. These groups meet throughout the month in members' homes for the purpose of fellowship, personal ministry, worship, and the study and application of God's Word.
Family Life
We believe that marriage and family are sacred gifts to be honored, nurtured and developed into thriving relationships that glorify God and serve others. To that end, we offer Care Groups, seminars, retreats, biblical counseling, and a wide variety of teaching materials. It is our joy and privilege to serve, support and equip engaged couples, newlyweds, single parents, married couples and growing families.
Youth
Our approach to youth ministry is threefold: challenging young people to live for God and not for themselves; helping parents and children to build strong relationships; and equipping parents to effectively disciple their children. This ministry is directed at the hearts, minds and wills of the youth; teaching them to honor God with their passions, thoughts and choices. At Sovereign Grace we value and strongly encourage parental involvement in youth ministry. We believe that parent-driven youth ministry best represents biblical exhortations and prepares both youth and parents to experience God's grand design during this special season of life.
Children
From the earliest ages, we want our children to have a growing understanding of God's greatness, Christ's crucifixion, and their profound need for a Savior. Consequently, we use a curriculum on Sunday morning that is God-centered and Cross-centered. Though important, this instruction is intended to supplement and not replace home-based training, which is primary.
Singles
This ministry provides a biblical vision for maximum fruitfulness and contentedness during these rewarding, though sometimes challenging years. Pursuing excellence in the workplace and growing in godly relationships are two vital ways our singles glorify God. Singles also participate in regular small groups, meet monthly, will participate in periodic retreats, service projects and fellowship activities.
